How to plan your family or portrait shoot

Location:  Location is one of the very first things you should consider when planning your family or portrait shoot. This site sets the “stage” for your photos and helps to tell the story of who you are. Choosing a wide open space is helpful for your photographer for room and ideas. Location ideas would be an open field with grass/flowers, a park, beach or cool looking building. Unless you have a big yard with lots of different places to take photos I would stay away from planning your shoot in your own yard.

Some Kelowna Location ideas are:   Bertram Park, City Park, Mission Creek Park, Gellatly Nut farm, Knox Mountain, an Orchard in bloom, the Japanese Garden, downtown Kelowna, or Father Pandosy Mission Heritage Park.

Clothing:  I always tell my clients that they should wear clothes that they feel good in and that are comfortable. They don’t need to match but color coördination is important.

Children:  I love taking pictures of babies and big kids!! They are my favorite subjects!  So if they cry or have a fit about something NO WORRIES!! I have no problems about taking as many snack or water breaks you need. I also don’t worry about getting kids to sit still for to long!! I love to follow them around and take photos of them being themselves!!

One Family shoot usually takes 1 1/2 hours long.  Please allow me this time so you are not disappointed with the # of photos you receive after. Because I shoot in Manual not every photo I take is guaranteed to turn out.

I hope this information is helpful for you!!

Thanks Josie
